Little Stories Here And There/Pick The Best Magic Cheerleader: Round 1, Part 8: Kim M. vs Kristina
It looks like I didn't miss much yesterday.
Dwight Howard signed an extension to make it official that him and Lewis are the faces of the franchise, but this is old news.
Otis Smith is using his weekend to go out and see Jameer Nelson's agent to see if an extension is possible for him, but this also is old news.
The one interesting thing to happen was that Otis Smith on ESPN radio said yesterday that 'unless something happens' the likely starting 5 next season would be as follows:
-----------------PG: Jameer Nelson
SG: JJ Redick
SF: Hedo Turkoglu
PF: Rashard Lewis
C: Dwight Howard
----------------------The thing that sticks out immediately is Rashard Lewis at Power Forward. Rashard is tall, but usually a lot of Power Forwards are bulky and can bang in the post. We will certainly have an advantage on offense, but on defense I shudder to think of Rashard guarding someone like Udonis Haslem or even Darko. It seems like it would be a mismatch and could possibly result in the injury of Lewis himself.
In addition, this lineup must be built for running and high scoring because the defensive capabilities just aren't there. Games will be 126-125 scoring affairs next year unless Van Gundy really works wonders (he IS a defensive-minded coach, so it's possible).
Rather than waste my breath here worrying about the lineup (I say wasting my breath because free agency just started. We could have a few trades before things are said and done), I think we should keep the Friday tradition going. Last time around Kasey clobbered Kim C. and advanced to face Jane:
This week it is another battle of the Ks as Kim M. goes against Kristina .
Which Magic Cheerleader do you prefer?
As always, leave your comments about your votes in the comments section. Have a great weekend everyone.

that lineup has to be a joke. i like otis smith because he is honest and outspoken, but he does ALOT of stupid crap. an article just came out today about trevor ariza saying he wants the starting job, so instead of letting the competition play out he just straight out did the dueche baggy move and told him no so thats gonna piss him off. he must have done atleast something to piss him off. he trades away the first round pick for a darko so we could let him leave and the god of inconsistancy carlos arroyo. he wont trade away hedo and finally he makes a horrible signing in Lewis. now i say its a horrible signing only because of the amount of money he spent. he gave a max deal and everyone tries to justify it by saying ooo well we had to he was hte top free agent, but if you really look at it we bid against ourselves. he's stated he knew he was coming here right wen the season ended and the only main contenders for his services were us, the rockets, and the sonics. the rockets could only offer him $50 mil and the sonics werent serious about resigning him and if they did it wasnt to even $70 mil. So instead of actual negotiations or atleast getting into a bidding war to get to the point of a max contract he just throws the money at him. then to cap it off after he guarentees him $90 million he says "f*ck it" lets give him 36.5 million more by doing a sign and trade and not getting rid of any of the loose baggage we had. we pretty much gave up a second rounder to spend 36.5 million more dollars and keep him til hes 34 rather than 33. I like Lewis alot but we signed a guy to max money who all he can do is score and hes not even a top 5 guy at it rather than keeping that money and making a play at andre igudala or GILBERT ARENAS next year. i love the magic but the only way we compete for a title is if we get a miracle rookie, rashard lewis dies next season and we get his money back, or if JJ or jameer turns into a beasts (and even if jameer does we wont have enough money that way to sign him again)
I agree that Otis has really been gnawing at the nerves of a lot of the players and fans lately. I think he is gambling on the one thing that seems to erase all sins: winning.
How we do this upcoming season will have a huge impact on whether Otis is a goner soon or if he is our GM for years to come. Thanks for writing!
